You need to check your credit report and clear up anything that is reporting incorrectly. You may need to negotiate a settlement on some old debts. And most importantly if your fico score is low, you need to check your credit card utilization. High credit card utilization in comparison to your credit limit is probably the number one reason why your credit score is low.
