So you’re thinking about moving to Nashville, Tennessee.
Well, I’m Rhonda Burgess and I’m a real estate broker and owner of a of Southern Living Realty here in Nashville, Tennessee.
And in this video I’m going to tell you seven things that you need to know if you’re considering this move to Nashville.
First, what you need to know is that everybody is moving to Nashville and they have been moving to Nashville at a rate of about 100 people a day for the last two years, about 24 months or so.
So that’s a lot of people who have moved to Nashville.
As a native Nashvillian myself. I can tell you we are overwhelmed.
We know how wonderful Nashville is and how it’s a cool place and everything, but we are just totally overwhelmed with the number of people who are moving here.
And it’s a diverse bunch of people who are moving here.
I know you probably think – Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry. We’re all country, we’re all hicks.
I’ve been told people didn’t think we wore shoes in Tennessee. I don’t know. I don’t know where that came from.
But anyway, there’s a lot of different types of people moving here.
We have a very diverse population, so if you’re considering moving to Nashville, don’t think you’ll be alone because there are a lot of different types of people here which makes it a very, very hip and cool place, which it already was, but it just makes it more hip and more cooler with everyone moving here.
It has created a building boom. They are even creating streets that we didn’t even have. You know what I’m saying?
They’re putting up condos and apartments everywhere. There’s a lot of building and stuff going on.
So there’s a lot of traffic, a lot of traffic with so many people moving here.
[su_divider link_color=”#171ebc”]So another thing you need to know, the second thing you need to know about moving to Nashville is you need a car, you need some type of transportation or you’re going to be using a lot of Uber and a lot of Lyft.
Just to be quite honest with you, we don’t have a subway, we don’t have trains, we really don’t have a mass transit system.
And the interstates can be challenging. Just let me say that “challenging”.
Look up interstate 24 on any national (traffic) website and it’ll tell you that’s(I-24) one of the worst stretches of interstate. It is one of the top 10 in the country.
You can just be going along and all of a sudden it just stops because people have had a wreck or people just stopped.
I don’t know what happens, but 24 can be a nightmare. Just get ready for it.
But you do need a car because the only type of mass transit that we have, the bus, you know the city bus.
It’s just not that robust in in my opinion. I don’t ride the bus, but really to get around Nashville, you’re going to need a car.
[su_divider link_color=”#171ebc”]The next thing you need to know about moving to Nashville is the weather.
Yes, we have a true four seasons. We have it all spring, summer, winter, fall, fall is beautiful.
The leaves change and you can just ride around and look at all the trees where leaves have changed colors.
It is awesome, but the weather is bipolar.
You can wake up getting ready to go to work and it’s 30 degrees.
At lunch, you’ll take your lunch, it’ll be 70 degrees and you’ll be out there sweating because you put on clothes for 30 degree weather.
And then we’ll have a thunderstorm right in the middle of the afternoon at rush hour and it’ll be 15 degrees that night.
We will go through a whole day where the weather has changed four or five times and just be prepared for that.
Another thing, especially for people who are moving here from the cold weather climates where you’re used to snow.
Let me explain something to you about Nashville and the snow.
When we get a forecast of snow, even if it’s just flurries, prepare yourself because we don’t drive in the snow. We don’t do snow.
Okay, so just know that the schools will close early.
They will shut them down – Davidson county, Rutherford county, Sumner county, Williamson County, every county around Nashville, including Nashville-Davidson county schools will close early.
Businesses will close early. You’re thinking, okay, I’m going to pick up my dry cleaning on the way home.
No, you’re not. Because the dry cleaner closed early too because they said it was gonna snow.
It’s pandemonium when we have a snow forecast because then it’s not that we’re all rushing to get home.
No, we’re not rushing to get home. We are rushing to get to Kroger. We are rushing to get the Publix.
Because we are going to take the last water and the last loaf of bread.
We’re going to take everything. There will be nothing left on the shelves.
You would think a hurricane is coming, but no, because we rushed to get to the grocery store because we stock up like it’s armageddon just because we get a forecast of snow.
And when we do get snow, don’t make fun of us because we cannot drive in the snow. We know this.
That’s why we normally stay off the road because 2 to 3 three inches of snow can shut down Nashville, so just be prepared.
If there’s a forecast of snow, you got to get your butt over to the grocery store and fight for that last loaf of bread and some water or you’re not a true Nashvillian.

First of all, we love our Tennessee Titans. Yes, we love our Tennessee Titans. That’s our NFL football team. Get it right.
We are not the Houston oilers. The Texans have a team. That’s them over there. We are the Tennessee Titans.
We are our own people. We are. We don’t have nothing to do with that – we are the Tennessee titans.
Number 2 – we have an awesome hockey team. Yes, we have NHL hockey in the south.
We love our hockey – the Nashville Predators. Nothing comes before the Nashville Predators.
Now, one word of caution I will give you don’t be downtown and the Titans are in town and the Nashville Predators are playing.
There will be gridlock, but it’d be an awesome experience.
Smashville. Let me explain to you what is Smashville.
It is when the Predators have a home game in downtown Nashville at Bridgestone arena. We bring out this old car and we smash it.
I know it’s country, but that’s what we do. So you need to respect Smashville. Okay?
Because if you don’t respect Smashville, then don’t come. Because we be down there hammering and jumping up and down on that car and everything.
That’s what Smashville is for us. Because we get ready.
We get hyped for our Predators game. So to just let you know about the Predators.
And also we have a baseball team. We have the Nashville Sounds, which is a AAA baseball team.
The Sounds have a new stadium in downtown also where they play.
And we serious about our baseball, just like we are about football and our hockey. We are serious fans.
And going back on the football, you need to know that Nashville is hosting the 2019 NFL draft. That’s right. Write it down. Nashville is on the map.
And I’m not even going to get into the college teams who are here. Anchor down Vanderbilt!
We’re a serious sport city. So be ready to represent your team.
[su_divider link_color=”#171ebc”]Now we are the Bible belt, meaning there’s more churches here than anywhere and we are home of the Southern Baptists.
But trust and believe, whichever way you want to worship, we got a church for you.
We got a synagogue for you. We got a mosque, we got Hindu (churches). We got everything but just know that there are more churches here.
You won’t find a place on earth with more churches than Nashville. I’m telling you.
Let’s say you get up Sunday and you decide you want to go to a different church, just walk out your front door and make a right or make a left.
You can find a new church because we have more churches than anywhere else on this earth.
But we don’t force you to believe one certain way or worship with us or whatever.
But Hey, if you want to you, there are plenty of places you can find a church home here in Nashville.
[su_divider link_color=”#171ebc”]And finally, number seven, the 7th thing you need to know about moving to Nashville. We are the friendliest people in the world.
So if you move to Nashville, you are expected to speak.
And what I mean by “speak” is you’ll be walking into your office and you pass somebody and they’ll say, good morning. How you doing?
You’ll be going into the convenience store. How you doing? Hey, how you doing? Hey, good morning. Hey, good evening. Have good one. Hey, good morning.
We speak and we expect you to speak back.
You’re not going to be able to walk down the street in Nashville without somebody speaking to you.
No they don’t know you, but look, you ain’t got to know nobody.
This is how you get to know people because we will speak to you.
Hey, how you doing? I’m doing good. How you doing? I’m doing good and this will be just random people.
You’d be standing in the line when it snows and you have rushed down to Kroger to get that water.
And you’re standing in line, people are going to be like, how you doing? How you doing? You Ready? You Ready? I’m ready. I’m ready for the snow. Yeah. You think it’s really going to snow. Yeah I think it’s really going to snow.
You will have random conversations with people you don’t know. You’re going to be at the gas pump.
We speak to people and we expect you to speak back. We’re very courteous.
We will hold the door for you. You coming in and out, we will hold the door for you. Thank you.
Be ready to speak. Be ready to get out of your comfort zone and speak and talk to people you have never met before because we’re super friendly and we expect you to be too.
